The best game on the Wii
By KM (England) (TOP 100 REVIEWER)

The latest addition to the long running series finally appears on the Wii with so many new changes that makes the old series seem new again.

GAMEPLAY - 5/5
In MK Wii it makes full use of the Wii's innovative controls by using the remotes tilt-sensitive motions as a steering wheel by using the attachment, also included in the package. Personally I've found this control method the best way to play this game, giving it a more arcade-like feel to it. If that's not for you though, you can use either the remote and nunckuck combo, the Classic controller or an old Gamecube contoller instead. As well as the single player Grand Prix andd Time Trial modes you can play the usual 2-4 player split screen races and battles and you can also take the game online using Nintendo Wi-Fi to battle players around the World, either by yourself or with a friend in the new 2 player online mode. Other new features include 12 racers on the screen at once, as opposed to the usual 8 that it has always been and for the first time in the series there are now motorbikes as well as cars to choose from. As well as the 16 new tracks (8 of which are un-lockable) there are 16 classic tracks from the previous MK games on the SNES, N64, GBA, Gamecube and DS.

GRAPHICS - 5/5
Some of the best I've seen on the Wii so far. Very colourful and very sharp. The classic tracks that were previously in mock-3D on the SNES and GBA have also been converted very nicely.

SOUND - 5/5
Brilliant, catchy tunes at the high quaility that you'd expect from Nintendo. I can't get them out of my head!

LASTABILITY - 5/5
Loads of modes of play and tonnes to unlock, including 4 new cups- 16 new tracks, new characters and being able to play as your Mii. Online play adds endless fun with your friends (using the Friends Codes) or playing people from all over the World, where upto 12 players can compete against each other in one race. There's 16 tracks and 12 characters to start with, so plenty to keep you busy when you first start playing. Having 12 racers on the screen at once also seems a little harder than on the previous games, so lots of practice will be needed if you want to get the gold in all of the cups.

OVERALL - 5/5
This has always been one of the best and most fun racing game series on any console and the Wii version takes everything that has been good from the previous games, made it so much better and added even more excellent new features into the mix. The new control method using the Wii steering wheel is also very fun to use and works really well. I highly recommend this to anyone who owns a Wii and think that this game really shines when playing on multi-player. This is defintiely the most fun game that I've played on the Wii so far. Buy it!

Game Features:

  • The Wii Wheel transforms the Wii Remote; controller into a steering wheel that feels natural in anyone's hands, while the Wii Remote and Nunchuk; controller offer a classic control style for the Mario Kart veteran. In either configuration, players can perform speed-boosting tricks with a shake of the Wii Remote.
  • Players can race as their favourite Nintendo character, or even as themselves! Mario Kart Wii lets players race with their personalized Mii; characters. And racers will see other Mii characters they have created cheering from the sidelines on some race courses.
  • Players can compete with up to three friends in their living room. Or challenge up to 11 opponents via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection in the biggest Mario Kart race yet. All tracks and modes of play are available via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, and players can visit the Mario Kart Channel to compete in tournaments, check rankings, see when their friends are playing and download ghost data.
  • Cruise new tracks and arenas or tour classic courses from Super Mario Kart;, Mario Kart; 64, Mario Kart;: Super Circuit;, Mario Kart;: Double Dash!!; and Mario Kart; DS. Tired of riding on four wheels? Bust out one of the new motorbikes for special tricks and techniques.

Characters
Nintendo favourites Mario;, Luigi;, Peach;, Yoshi;, Donkey Kong;, Wario;, Bowser; and Toad;, plus a host of new faces-including your own! Get into the game and put your Mii; character behind the wheel.

Special Powers/Weapons/Moves/Features
Whether racing around an obstacle-filled track or battling in an arena, drifting and tossing items are the keys to Mario Kart success. Players can shake the Wii Remote while launching off a ramp to pull off a trick that will temporarily boost their speed. When riding a bike, players can gain additional speed by flicking the Wii Remote up and popping a wheelie

Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection:
Keeping in the tradition of Mario Kart, Nintendo has pushed multiplayer racing even further utilizing the Wii's built in Wi-Fi Connection. There are two options for races and battles over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection: up to 12 people via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection or up to 10 people via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection with two people playing locally.

Better Buy Bosch, 6 May 2007
By M. B. Hurrell - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)

The reviews on the Rotak 40C, I think are actually for the 40, particularly as one reviewer quite rightly notes that you can pick one of these up from Homebase for £119.00 and Homebase doesn't stock the 40C!!

I have bought one of these for my Medium to Small garden after my Flymo burnt out. I have to say that I have been missing out. The Flymo was hard work, hacked the grass, rather than cut it and wasn't even very good on my steep front lawn! This BOSCH blows it out of the water. Its powerful, easy and produces an excellent cut, even across steep ground. You can easily adjust the cut height and the grass collector really compacts the cuttings, meaning I can do the whole lawn without emptying. I was going to buy a Petrol Mower this time, but the Bosch is so light and relatively maintenance free, I don't think you'll find much to justify purchasing one of the competition.

One of the best bits of kit I have bought for exceeding my expectations. Great value for money!

I previously owned a hover mower and was going to buy another until I saw the splendid reviews for this product. I once borrowed a rotary mower from a friend and was very unimpressed so I thought buying the Rotak 40 was taking a bit of a risk. Thankfully the machines couldn't be more different in operation and results, and I'd highly recommend the Rotak 40. Due to its large cutting width it has halved the time to cut my lawn and left a very neat cut, although I don't use the closest setting as my lawn is quite uneven (having laid the turf myself). The grass collection is superb, rendering my electric grass rake redundant. It really does cut right up to the edge, so there is less work for the strimmer as well. It even has two carrying handles built into the body of the mower, and the non-removable cable easily wraps around the handle. Full marks!

Rotak 40 Electric Rotary Mower, 24 May 2007
By Mr. S. J. Bowers "bobdenmark" (Cheadle UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)

I don't write reviews unless something comes along that redifines anything before it. This is only my 3rd review on Amazon. And yes, its only a lawnmower so whats the big deal? Well, I love my garden, but am not too keen on the inevitable hard graft required to keep it looking good. I have a medium sized to large lawn, most of which is even, but parts which are not, and like it or not, its me that has to mow the darn thing.

I've tried several mowers over the past 5 years, including Flymo hover types (despite all the marketing hype, and several different models, proved to be very little grass collected for lot of hovering ) and a couple of cylinder mowers ( the best one being a Qualcast all metal mower, which works OK on flat areas but scuffs on uneven parts and is heavy to manouver ) this is the mower I used last season and which I'd had the best results with........until I saw the lawn cut with friends Rotak 40.

So I bought one.

If I hadn't seen what this mower can do, I would never have paid £119 for what basically looks like a cheap plastic mower designed for a postage stamp lawn. And I have to admit, I have my reservations as to how long it will last ( has a year guarantee though ). Its all plastic for goodness sake !! But the results this machine produces are simply stunning. I like my grass cut short, and use this at the minimum cut of 2cm. The lawn almost looks like a bowling green, at this setting. It only takes one mow to cut, and is easy and lightweight to manouver. It has 2 carrier handles built into the mower, which makes it easy to pick-up for transport. The flimsy looking grassbox, does its job admirably, the grass collected being compacted, means it holds at least twice as much as my conventional Qualcast cylinder grassbox. It cuts up right to the edge of the mower ( yes it realy does! ) meaning I can steer the mower round my Apple trees without having to use the strimmer. Underneath, on the back, is a plastic roller, which gives a stryped effect ( not as good as the qualcast, but still noticeable). And, here's the crunch.......this mower will cut on its lowest setting (ie bowling green!! ) without scuffing on uneven lawns.

I am quite literally bowled over by this rotary machine, the ease of use and the results I've achieved, and indeed the time saved mowing. I paid over £300 for an excellent quality Qualcast electric mower 2 years ago, but this mower blows it away, in performance and ease of use. UNBELIEVABLE.

The question is, how long will it last...it is plastic for goodness sake !!!!!!

Klipsch iGroove iPod Speaker System (silver or black), 28 Aug 2007
By Christopher T. Nicholson - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)

I'd been searching for ages for an iPod speaker dock system that would rival and maybe even replace my old separates hi-fi system that had started to show its age. (I work in the film industry and used to run a recording studio so good sound is very important to me). I was pretty thorough in my research, home-tested two different units, became a pain to many a shop assistant and also poured over reviews on the net researching which units to test. I finally bought the Klipsch iGroove iPod Speaker System from Amazon and am very happy with it indeed. In fact, I think it is the best sounding iPod speaker dock that I found to date and recommend it most highly.

Speaker docks have two design limitiations:
1) The size of the dock tends to limit the bass response.
2) The way many docks connect to the iPod is via a male socket that plugs into the base of the iPod. This socket is often hard-wired to the pcb of the dock system, is subject to stress when the iPod is plugged in or unplugged and therefore can fail after light use.

The iGroove has a bass port at the back of the unit which is very effective. Additionally, the iPod fits snugly into the cradle on the unit, with a neat slider arrangement embedded into this cradle being adjusted up or down depending on which iPod you fit. (I use this unit with a 5g Video iPod and a 4g 40 Gig iPod just fine). The actual male connector is fixed firm and has no play to it. By adjusting the slider to the correct hight, you can drop the iPod into the unit and take it out again without causing any stress at all to the plug. Also, if you adjust the slider correctly, the iPod cannot move at all when connected, thereby limiting the potential for any stress to the connector.

Untis I tested included the following:
Monitor Audio i-deck Speaker Dock for iPod (I actually bought one of these and although it sounded great, I returned it after a couple of months as the connector failed - a common fault according to Newsgroups)
JBL Onstage II - iPod Speaker System - (very dissappointing sound and really lacked in bass)
JBL Radial - High Performace iPod Speaker System - (although more powerful, still not as impressive as I'd hoped)

Smaller, cheaper units sounded smaller and cheaper! I also read some pretty worrying comments from users of iRythhm regarding failure of the connector...

In summary:-

Pros:
Great sound
Small size
Good price
Excellent build quality

Cons:
Remote is a bit fussy - have to point it directly to the unit as it is infra-red (the Monitor Audio iDock used an RF remote which was much better).

Manufacturer's Description
The compact and stylish Klipsch iGroove not only accepts and charges all dockable iPods, it also works with the Nano, Shuffle, a variety of MP3 players and other audio devices using the included dock adaptors. It features dual 2.5-inch fiber-composite woofers in a ported enclosure, dual 1-inch MicroTractrix Horn-loaded tweeters and a built-in iPod dock. To ensure an optimal and precise dispersion pattern, the exclusive MicroTractrix Horns are formed into the speaker baffle, a design that offers the lowest diffraction and maximum release of energy into the listening area. The system is ready to perform as soon as you plug it in and dock an iPod, and the included wireless remote control allows interaction with both the iGroove and iPod. The iGroove comes with a convenient solution for allowing the use of the Shuffle and other MP3 players. The include "J-Cup" insert can be placed in the docking area for MP3 players that use a standard mini-jack (headphone) stereo output.

Very effective, 22 Jun 2008
By Paul Madge (West Sussex UK) - See all my reviews

This air cooler is very effective and uses evaporation (rather than a compressor) to cool your room. Although it doesn't need a vent hose you do need to be able to allow the air to circulate by having open windows/doors into the room being cooled. The fan although not silent is quiet with 3 settings and the evaporation (cooling) facility is regulated by controlling the flow of water behind the fan - an added benefit being the soothing sound of flowing water. It isn't particulary compact but it is well made and very effective providing you allow the circulation of air through the room to be cooled (if you do not it gets humid). Certainly recommended for the inevitable heat of summer.

Technical Details
  • Suitable for up to 9m2 area
  • Natural Evaporative Cooling - No Hose/Trunk req
  • 3 Speed Quiet Fan
  • Lightweight/Portable on Wheels
  • Reduces Temperature by up to 30%
Product Description
Bioclimatic air coolers work by passing air through a soaked pad. As the water in the pad evaporates it causes a cooling effect rather like when you wet your finger then blow on it and it feels cold. Magicool comes with the sophisticated, high tech and ultra-powerful Stealth fan that distributes the cooled air around the room. What's more, the fan is super quiet making it ideal for use in the bedroom, giving you undisturbed sleep. To be effective these units require a constant supply of fresh air. It is therefore best used in a room with the doors or windows open to allow a continuous supply of fresh, lower humidity air. The amount of cooling is dependent on the room conditions. If it is a hot dry day they will cool more effectively than if it is cooler and/or more humid day.

A good product, 13 Feb 2008
By richest4u "013SP" (England) - See all my reviews

When i decided to order this product, the price and IMMENSE discount worried me. However when it arrived i was pleasantly surprised.

Its a pretty sturdy pair of shades, with a very attractive look in link with current fashion trends. It also has special "sides" (for lack of a better word) which helps secure the glasses on your face.

There are some downsides though. The ORANGE brow bar is can be a bit annoying at first though i must say it DOES grow on you. It is a pointless addition, as most the time your face doesnt even touch this bar. Also, the special sides make it difficult to put on and remove, especially if you have some form of hairstyle.

Though, based on its pros and cons as long as the price stays below about £20 - £25, it is great value, considering some opticians may charge you £hundreds for something of the same standard but with a fancy name on the frame.

A very good watch, 16 Oct 2008
By Mr. B. P. Hocking (UK)
(REAL NAME)
I have just got my Forerunner today and have given it a good go. This is my first GPS watch and I think its amazing. I don't like the heart rate monitors which I have had with other watches so I bought my 405 without it. I have found the watch very easy to use and it connects quickly to my computer. It also charges very quickly to. When I uploaded the data and looked at the google earth map it did show a slight error. It showed that I was running in a hedge and in the middle of the road at points but I was actually running on the path a couple of feet away. I have checked the route and it is pretty much the same distance, so this really doesn't make much difference. I found it accurate and worth buying. However I have read reviews on the watch being poor compared to the cheaper 305 but I haven't tried the 305.
Also I have not had problems with the touch bezel but make sure you wipe your hand of sweat if you want to mess with it on the fly. Hope this review helps you. read more...

Great technology !, 4 Feb 2009
By J. Johnson "JJ" (Enfield, Middlesex United Kingdom)
(REAL NAME)
I bought this watch after a couple of friends had used one for running for a while. I now use it for my regular training runs, along with a Garmin heart monitor (bought separately).
The watch is fairly easy to set up, as is the software on your PC.
Before setting out, you have to ensure that the watch is charged up, and then set it to training mode. At that point the watch searches for satellite signals. If you're indoors, you need to get near a window! It can take several minutes, albeit sometimes it just takes a few seconds.
Once the signal is picked up, you're away.
To download the data after your run, you just take your watch to your PC, where you will have permanently plugged in the supplied dongle. The PC will recognise the fact that the watch is nearby and automaically start to download the data.
Once complete, the PC will display your route. By clicking a tab, you can also see a vast array of data such as half mile lap times, run speed (min max avg), heart rate, elevation etc etc. This data is stored in weekly folders and you can also export it for backup.
My only issue with the Garmin is that the downloaded data is in some sort of proprietary format and cannot readily be exported in Excel/Access. If this were available, one could then perform unlimited statistical analysis!!
All in all, a superb piece of technology ! read more...

The ulitimate Hoovering machine !, 13 Jun 2008
By tallpete33 (London, UK) - (TOP 1000 REVIEWER)

I've floor-tested this machine on tiles, wood and carpet for about 6 months now and I'm very impressed with it's usability, design and cleaning results.

First impressions once out of the box were that is was smaller than anticipated (if you have a large house you may be better off with the DC25) and the design was a bit "busy". However, once I found the quick start booklet, I was up and running within 2 minutes.

It really is brilliantly designed with lots of nice touches. The track is narrow but this means it gets into places that no Hoover has ever been before, and as it picks up first time, cleaning time is greatly reduced. The ball design works well and it turns quicker than Michael Owen (the Liverpool years). The suction unit and brushes are very far forward so it picks-up right at the front, again a good time-saver. It has a button to switch off the brushes when on hard floors. The collector is not huge but emptying is a doddle - just don't press that red button BEFORE you're over a bin (like I did). Pull out the handle, turn it round and click it into place and there's your suction arm. No spider is safe with this machine in action. If James Bond did the vacuuming, he'd use one of these. It only comes with one tool end which cleverly switches between nozzle and brush but the brush is too easily pushed back in for my liking.

The "main" booklet is a few pages long and mostly pretty pictures but they explain everything well, particularly when it comes to filter cleaning. Removing the filter from the ball is a bit fiddly the first time but ok once you know what you're doing. Note - the instructions say that the filters should be cleaned every month, and not every 3-6 months as stated in the amazon product description. I don't have a dog or cat so can't comment on how well it picks up pet hairs, it may be worth checking other models and reviews for that.

What I like:
Brilliant design and build - everything clicks solidly into place
Cleans quickly and effectively
Very light - easily carried up the stairs one-handed
5 year guarantee
Compact and space saving (particularly with the handle depressed)
Looks the nuts

Niggles:
Flex could be a couple of metres longer
Tool not so clever, and it doesn't come with a crevice tool as standard. I'd recommend the Dyson Soft Dusting Brush
Removing the ball filter for cleaning is a bit tricky (make sure the vac is laid right back first)
Discrepancy about the filter cleaning times, but ultimately I guess it depends on how often you use it and where

This is my first Dyson as I've previously been a bit put off by the price and size but this is compact and not too expensive on here. It's a Grand Design in your kitchen cupboard :o)

Piles of power in a tiny package, 28 April 2008
By W. Neale "william8386" (Longton, Stoke) - (REAL NAME)

After our vacuum handle snapped off, my mother went out on a mission to replace it with a budget cleaner. Two weeks later, after purchasing 6 machines and taking them all back, either due to them having no tools, being too heavy or just blocking up, she was pursuaded to pay the significantly larger amount for the DC24. And she has never been more pleased. It's light enough for her to carry up the stairs and across the carpet, especially important due to her RSI, and yet it still packs enough power to leave the carpets like new. The collapsing handle means it can be stored under a shelf in a small cupboard, and the emptying is easier and less messy than the others she had tried - you simply take the sealed clear bin off the cleaner, walk to the outside bin, and press the empty button. Despite the small size of the bin, it gets only half full after cleaning a two bedroomed terraced house. The brushbar is easy to turn off, so previously uncleaned rugs and hard floors are a doddle. The hose may not reach to the top of a staircase, but the machine is so light, you can walk up the stairs carrying it, so it's not a problem. I would recommend this for people with smaller homes, flats, those with joint problems or the growing old, and those with much larger homes may find one with a larger hose/cable more suitable.

Incredible performance for the size, 26 April 2008
By L. Jones (Bristol, UK) - (REAL NAME)

I had never used a Dyson before and my preconception was that they are massively over-priced for a vacuum cleaner. When my cheap cylinder cleaner finally packed-in I looked around for an upright that was compact but effective and this new DC24 model just caught my eye and I thought I'd give it a chance, though it was about £50 more than my budget. The Amazon deal was the best one I could find. When it arrived the next day I was shocked by how compact it really is. The performance is phenomenal though - it pulls up vastly more dust than my cylinder did and the motorized brush bar is a great advantage. The thing that strikes you most though is how well thought out the whole design is - the little features like converting the handle to a cleaning wand and the ease of emptying the bin are what really makes the cost justifiable. Buy one, you won't regret it! read more...

By Andrew J (UK)

This was our first flat screen TV, replacing a 28" CRT. Although you can get the 32inch V4000 for only slightly more we went for this model as we don't need any extra screen size - we just wanted something easier to carry that doesn't use any floor space. It will be wall mounted in our small living room (allow 4 or 5cm clearance when you buy a bracket unless your cables will run through the wall...).

It is currently used for upscaled DVDs via hdmi, built-in freeview and as a 2nd monitor for the PC on a VGA cable. The picture quality is excellent in all of these uses and free from digital artefacts which are distracting on larger screens. read more...

Top value 26in LCD, 25 Sep 2008
By Alex B (London, UK)

I spent a lot of time researching various 26in TVs, and the choice seemed to be between various Sony models, a couple of Panasonic models and a Samsung one. I am extremely pleased to have chosen this model.

- It looks excellent. Although I am quite keen on my AV equipment, I do recognise a TV should look nice in the room you are putting it in. The piano black surround looks classy without being brash, and the silver speaker grille almost looks metal (although it isn't)

- The picture is superb. For SD broadcasts, it looks a lot better than my (much more expensive) Sharp 42in LCD. I mostly use it for connection to an Xbox360 - the responsiveness of the screen seems good and the colours are vibrant

- The remote is comfortable to use and quite intuitive. Some Sony stuff has been shipped with very complicated remotes lately (especially the DVD recorders), nice to see they are correcting this

Of course there are a couple of downsides (sound is average, the in built SD receiver isn't too good at picking up channels on weak signals) but in all I couldn't be happier with it. Not sure why you would pay £100 more for a Panasonic (or £40 less for a Samsung). read more...
